Where Is It Found?

Wudjari: They were found all along the coast of the Mirninynga peoples before colonisation but it got hunted too much by the farmers because the birds liked the grains and crops. They hunted them, poisoned them and the birds have since moved to a more northern habitat but still stay by the coast.

What Is Its Character?

Wudjari: They play and roll around. They are collectors. They mate for life. They adopt an area - when their trees disappear they go back to the same place. They roll around on the ground and grass and get really dirty - to get rid of lice.

Connection To People

Wudjari: Used to be found along the coast - territory of the Talyaraak tree and Mirninynga people - but it got hunted too much and has since moved to a more northern habitat. The name for police is manatj, since the old Noongars though the bobbys looked like cockatoos. Cockatoos are "collectors" - it may also have been a way to talk about police forcibly removing children from their true families.
