Native to central and southern Africa. Naturalised in New South Wales and Victoria, possibly Queensland.
Since publication of the Flora of Australia Volume 46 (1986) the Australian Plant Census (accessed 23 October 2020) records this species as naturalised for Australia. Treatment pending.
