Subshrub to 60 cm tall, glabrous or with scattered, appressed hairs particularly at nodes; stems slender, striate. Basal leaves ovate, tapering basally, dentate, with lamina 1-4 cm long, 3-10 mm wide; cauline leaves sessile, narrowly elliptic, entire, with lamina 2.5-10 mm long. Flowers in distant spikes or spike-like thyrses to 25 cm; bracts resembling cauline leaves; peduncle less than 2 mm long; bracteoles linear-triangular, 1-2.5 mm long. Sepals triangular, 1.5-2 mm long, free. Corolla 13-23 mm long, with fine, appressed or arcuate hairs outside, densely bearded inside, cream to white; barbulae simple; wings c. 1 mm wide. Indusium 2 mm wide, dense golden brown beard exceeding lips. Fruit not seen; ovary with short, white hairs at 90°.
