They are seen in open areas usually near water.
They eat insects mainly catching bees, wasps, dragonflies, beetles, butterflies and moths.
During the breeding months (August-January), males and females find a nesting site in sandy bank and dig a long tunnel (~90cm) leading to a nesting chamber which they often line with grass. Both parents sit on the eggs (2-8) and feed the young.
Body size: 22-25cm
Green, blue, yellow and brown body; black and blue eye-stripe; brown head; black tail with long tail streamers. Sexes similar, females have shorter tail streamers.
